O ex-governador e presidente regional do PSDB, Beto Richa, assinou nesta terça-feira (9) a “Carta em Defesa da Democracia”, articulada pela Faculdade de Direito da USP (Universidade de São Paulo). O documento já foi subscrito por mais de 700 mil pessoas, entre trabalhadores, lideranças políticas e sindicais, artistas, cientistas, intelectuais, escritores, jornalistas, juristas, empresários e professores.
“Pelo momento que o País vive, de radicalização e polarização política, e sobretudo de ameaça às instituições, é importante que as cidadãs e cidadãos brasileiros de todo o País se juntem a esta iniciativa da USP”, disse Beto Richa, que é pré-candidato a deputado federal. “Qualquer retrocesso é inaceitável e intolerável. Especialmente para quem viveu os tempos de ditadura e sabe o que é um regime de exceção, sem as garantias dos direitos individuais, sem liberdade e sob a mordaça da censura”, acrescentou Richa.
A Carta defende o regime democrático, o respeito à Constituição e as urnas eletrônicas, e terá seu lançamento oficial no dia 11 de agosto. Ela é inspirada na “Carta aos Brasileiros”, de agosto de 1977, que, em plena ditadura militar, defendia a restauração da democracia.
“A primeira Carta aos Brasileiros foi entusiasticamente apoiada por meu pai, José Richa, que naqueles tempos havia concluído seu mandato de prefeito de Londrina, cidade que se projetou como polo nacional de oposição ao regime. Da mesma forma, meu pai consagrou-se como um dos grandes líderes democratas do Brasil”, lembrou Beto Richa. José Richa foi o primeiro governador do Paraná eleito após a redemocratização do Brasil, em 1982.
Após assinar a nova “Carta em Defesa da Democracia”, Beto disse ainda que a democracia é “um bem essencial e uma bandeira inegociável”. Segundo ele, o Brasil não pode ser assombrado por novas ameaças golpistas e a democracia precisa ser defendida por todos aqueles que acreditam e respeitam a vontade do povo. “Só a democracia permite a alternância de poder sem sacrifícios, com estabilidade e respeito à vontade soberana da população”, concluiu. “Sou um democrata!”
